Four Roses

Of all the roses in my garden
There are a few I love the most
And for this handful of roses
I beam, and brag, and boast…
At first glance they may seem similar-
As though some traits are intertwined-
However, each of them is quite unique
With respects to heart, and soul, and mind.
And as I sit and gaze at them
I just can’t help but smile
As my gaze turns towards the “goofiest”
With his sweet, endearing style.
His slender leaves- (that tender touch)-
Frame a sheepish, playful grin
The dewdrops from his petals
Shine like diamonds on my skin.
Oh-so-gently do I lift him up
Just to smell such sweet perfume
Carefully, I hold him close to me-
Soft-spoken silence fills the room.
This rose, he stands for playfulness
Yet he falls for nothing slight
Many times his calming presence
Gets me through the darkest night.
Despite recently acquired thorns
He prefers a “softer touch”-
He tends to be compassionate
When it’s what I need so much.
Each one of my “Four Roses”
Holds its own place in my heart
I keep them close together
Even when they’re miles apart
And now it’s gotten colder
As I watch the season turn
I sit amongst my roses
My hardest lesson, yet, to learn…
These days my bed of roses
Seems to be a little “down”…
I can’t say that I blame them-
It seems we’ve lost our “little Clown”..?
Maybe “gone”-but not forgotten-
In my garden “he” still grows
His leaves reach out around the rest
<it’s as if somehow he knows..?>
And though I have my moments
When I can’t hold back the tears
It’s been comforting to watch my roses
Bloom together through the years…
With the Good Lord as my witness
I can let go of regret
Focusing on all the good times
As we REMEMBER to NOT FORGET.

(For you, "Mom"... I hope it helps to soothe the heartache... at least a little bit.)
